With summer’s end came at least a half-dozen new restaurant openings throughout the region.

Sesto Senso Mediterranean Cuisine recently opened at 423 N. 18th St., a space in Shockoe Bottom previously occupied by Pie314 RVA. It offers Greek and Italian pizzas, sandwiches, sodas and appetizers like arancini and spanakopita.

Also in Shockoe, Cicada’s is now open for lunch service at 1316 E. Cary St. The new restaurant and bar is from a group of local restaurant industry veterans.

In Jackson Ward, Sunday Bagel is now open at 210 W. Marshall St. The former pop-up outfitted a formerly vacant warehouse to be its brick-and-mortar home.

Western Henrico recently got two new eateries: Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in the Trader Joe’s-anchored Short Pump Station shopping center, and Deep Run Roadhouse, which relocated to an old Wendy’s building in the John Rolfe Commons shopping center.

In Carytown, Haru: Japanese and Korean Market has replaced Tokyo Market after a brief closure and change in ownership.

In Scott’s Addition, local investor Brad Cummings purchased restaurant Lost Letter’s building at 2935-2939 W. Clay St. for $1.6 million, per city property records. Cummings also owns the building on Summit Avenue where Lost Letter owners Megan Fitzroy Phelan and Patrick Phelan operate restaurant and bar The Brooklyn, as well as a neighboring building where a mystery restaurant is in the works.

Plans have been filed for a new deli to open in the former Red Eye Cookie Co. building on Grace Street near VCU. The new operator could not be reached.

Burger chain Nash & Smashed has signed on to take over the former Maple Street Buiscuit Co. space at 2061 Huguenot Road in Midlothian. It’s one of at least two locations Nash & Smashed is working on in the region, along with a spot near VCU.
