Hundreds of people gathered Monday evening for a peace walk to honor 12-year-old Khloe Ishway, who was fatally shot Saturday night at Leon Day Park.

“I’m going to miss my baby. I want to see her so bad,” said Kristin Reese, Khloe’s mother.

Holding Khloe’s 1-year-old brother, Reese described the difficulty of coping with her loss.

“The past couple of days have been so hard, but I have to stay strong for my baby, but it’s been a disaster,” Reese said.

Khloe’s grandmother, Jacqueline Howell, shared her heartbreak over the tragedy.

“I never thought or imagined in a million years I would have to bury a grandchild. I’ve got 11 grandchildren. They supposed to bury me. I’m not supposed to bury my grandchildren,” Howell said.

The peace walk began along West North Avenue and ended about a mile away at Leon Day Park, where the community gathered to support Khloe’s family and pray.

Mayor Brandon Scott and Baltimore City Police Commissioner Richard Worley were in attendance. Khloe’s aunt, Tawanda Williamson, expressed her sorrow over the life cut short.

“She didn’t deserve this. She had a lot of life to live. We won’t even get to see her go to her prom or graduation, nothing. I’m so sorry this happened to her,” Williamson said.

Howell remembered Khloe as a joyful and loving child.

“Khloe was a good girl. She was a normal child, and she loved life and loved having fun,” Howell said.

As the community came together, the family expressed their hope for justice and asked everyone to remember Khloe for the person she was.

“Just remember her as a loving person, good family member, good sister, good cousin, good friend. I just want everybody to remember her,” Reese said.

A candlelight vigil is planned Tuesday night at Leon Day Park at 7 p.m.
